Low Bentham is the lower part of the twin settlement of Bentham in North Yorkshire, tucked into a valley on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and close to the Lancashire border. The village grew up around Bentham Beck, whose waters once powered several small textile mills and still shape the character of the stone-built streets; the setting makes it a handy base for walks into the limestone scenery of the Dales and the nearby hills such as Ingleborough.
Today Low Bentham combines a modest local economy of farming, small businesses and commuting with a strong community feel, supported by village clubs, a primary school and the local railway station on the Leeds–Morecambe route. Its mix of industrial heritage, scenic location and active community life gives it the quiet, practical charm typical of rural Yorkshire settlements.
