High Bentham is a small market town in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, sitting close to the county border with Lancashire on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. It occupies a narrow valley and is surrounded by limestone uplands - popular local landmarks include the moors and peaks such as Ingleborough and the neighbouring Forest of Bowland - which make it a handy base for walkers and anyone wanting easy access to classic Dales scenery.
Historically the settlement grew from a rural village into a modest industrial centre in the 18th and 19th centuries, with local quarrying and mill activity contributing to its expansion, and it remains a tight-knit community with shops, pubs and grassroots events. It’s served by Bentham railway station on the line linking places like Skipton and Lancaster, so while retaining a village feel it has good rail links for commuters and visitors.
