Lyddington is a small, picturesque village in Rutland, set among rolling agricultural countryside of small fields and hedgerows. The settlement is built largely of honey‑coloured stone with a compact village core and lies within easy reach of the market towns of Oakham and Uppingham, while the popular nature and recreation area of Rutland Water is also close by.
The village is best known for Lyddington Bede House, a former medieval bishops’ palace for the Bishops of Lincoln that later became an almshouse and is now preserved as a historic site with gardens and a dovecote. Despite its small size, Lyddington has an active local community, a village pub and church, and attracts walkers and birdwatchers who come to enjoy the quiet lanes and nearby reservoirs.
