Chard South sits in the southern part of the market town of Chard in Somerset, where town streets give way fairly quickly to rolling countryside near the county borders. The ward contains a mixture of Victorian terraces and later housing estates, local shops, parks and small industrial areas on the town’s edge, and serves as a base for commuters heading to larger centres such as Taunton and Yeovil.
Locally the area shares in Chard’s long textile and engineering heritage and the town’s unusual claim to fame for early powered flight, and benefits from active community groups, sports clubs and small cultural attractions. Socially it’s a varied neighbourhood with ongoing regeneration and community-led projects aimed at improving facilities and supporting local businesses.
