The Basildon ward in West Berkshire, England covers a largely rural area centred on the village of Basildon, set on the scarp of the Berkshire Downs and overlooking parts of the River Thames valley. It is characterised by rolling chalk downland, mixed farmland and woodlands with a network of lanes and footpaths popular with walkers.
Culturally and historically the ward is best known for Basildon Park, an elegant Georgian house now in the care of the National Trust and often used as a film location, which brings a modest tourist trade alongside village life. Economically the area remains largely agricultural while also forming part of the commuter hinterland for Reading and London, combining conservation interests with a quiet rural community atmosphere.
