Hurst is a small village and civil parish in the borough of Wokingham in Berkshire, lying a few miles east of the town of Wokingham and close to Twyford. Set on the edge of the Thames Valley, it keeps a distinctly rural feel with farmland, small copses and winding lanes; the parish church of St Nicholas' Church dates back several centuries and the village name derives from the Old English for a wooded rise.
Today Hurst is largely residential and popular with commuters because of good road and rail links to Reading and London, but it still supports an active local life - a village hall, annual fetes, a pub and community clubs - while the surrounding countryside is used for walking, riding and small-scale agriculture, giving a pleasant mix of historic character and modern commuter economy.
