Newbridge sits on the western edge of the City of Edinburgh in Scotland, close to Edinburgh Airport and well served by trunk roads, so it functions both as a local service centre and a commuter hub. Historically it grew around transport links and a crossing point, and today combines small industrial and retail estates with easy access to riverside and towpath walks along the River Almond and the Union Canal, which attract walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers.
Ratho Station is a quieter, largely residential settlement nearby that originated as a railway community and still retains a strong village feel despite its proximity to the city. It benefits from the same canals and green corridors, a handful of local businesses and good rail and road connections into Edinburgh, so many residents commute while enjoying access to parkland, historic features and outdoor leisure on the outskirts of the capital.
