Ratho is a village to the west of Edinburgh in the City of Edinburgh council area of Scotland, around seven miles from the city centre. It sits beside the Union Canal and close to the River Almond, with a compact historic core of stone houses and a parish church that reflect its long history as a rural settlement with canal‑side wharfs and former mill activity.
Today Ratho combines a strong local community with many commuters who benefit from nearby Edinburgh Airport and the A8/M8 transport corridor; the towpath is popular with walkers, cyclists and narrowboats, and village pubs, clubs and events help maintain a relaxed, distinctly rural feel while remaining within easy reach of the city.
