Clackmannan is a small historic town in Clackmannanshire, set at the foot of the Ochil Hills with views across the River Forth towards Fife. Its compact streets and surrounding farmland give it a rural feel despite being close to larger centres such as Alloa and Stirling, and it’s a handy base for hill‑walks and riverside outings.
The town is best known for the medieval Clackmannan Tower, a 14th‑century tower house that anchors a conservation area and lends the place its historic identity - in fact the county takes its name from the town. Historically the wider area was shaped by coal‑mining and quarrying, but today the community is small and largely residential, with local events, heritage interest and links to regional tourism rather than heavy industry.
