Thornton is a small village in eastern Fife, Scotland, situated just inland from the Firth of Forth and roughly between Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes. Its setting on low-lying farmland gives easy access to coastal and rural landscapes, with views across the Howe of Fife towards the Lomond Hills.
Historically the village expanded in the 19th century around a local railway junction and the wider coal and agricultural economy of Fife; today it largely functions as a quiet residential and commuter community with local amenities, a village hall and links into the regional transport network, while retaining a strong sense of local identity and rural character.
