Coaltown of Wemyss is a small former mining village on the southern coast of Fife, Scotland, perched above the Firth of Forth. It sits in the shadow of the historic Wemyss estates and is close to neighbouring villages such as East Wemyss and West Wemyss, with the larger Levenmouth towns of Methil and Leven nearby.
Built originally to house workers in the local coalfield, the village still bears a strong mining heritage in its street layout and older buildings, but today the economy is more mixed with commuters, light industry and some tourism. The area is notable for coastal scenery, cliffs and the nearby Wemyss Caves with ancient carvings, and the presence of Wemyss Castle adds a touch of local history and identity that the tight-knit community still celebrates.
