East Wemyss is a small coastal village on the south shore of the Firth of Forth in Fife, Scotland, sitting a short distance from West Wemyss and the wider Levenmouth area. Its rugged sandstone cliffs hide the famous Wemyss Caves, where early medieval Pictish carvings and cup-and-ring marks make the shoreline nationally significant for archaeology and heritage walking.
Historically a coal-mining and harbour community, East Wemyss saw its economy change sharply after the mid-20th century pit closures, and today the village combines a small residential population with interest in tourism, conservation and local history; nearby Wemyss Castle (still in private hands) underscores the long human story of the coast. The place retains a tight-knit, community feel and is valued for sea views, cliff walks and its unusual archaeological treasures.
