Newmains is a former industrial village in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, lying between the towns of Wishaw and Shotts. It grew up in the 19th century around coal mining and ironworking, and that industrial past still shapes the layout, local landmarks and community memory; former pits and works have left behind distinctive bings and memorials that speak to its heritage.
Today Newmains is largely residential with schools, community centres and local sports clubs, and a strong sense of local identity. Many residents now commute to larger centres such as Motherwell, Glasgow or Edinburgh, while regeneration efforts and green spaces have helped repurpose former industrial land and support a quieter, more mixed local economy.
