Overtown in North Lanarkshire is a small former mining village just south of Wishaw, within easy reach of Motherwell and Glasgow and sitting on the fringe of the Clyde Valley countryside. It’s largely residential now, with local shops and green spaces nearby and quick road links that make it a convenient base for commuters.
Historically the village grew up around coal and iron working in the 19th and 20th centuries, leaving a legacy of miners’ terraces and community institutions; since the decline of heavy industry it has become quieter and more commuter‑focused but still retains a strong local identity, active community groups and occasional heritage reminders of its industrial past.
