Larkhall sits in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, on the edge of the Clyde Valley close to the Avon Water, and enjoys the feel of a former industrial town that has kept much of its Victorian high street character. Its 19th‑century roots in coal mining, textiles and ironworking are still visible in stone buildings and former mill sites, while green spaces around the valley give a pleasant contrast to the urban core.
Today the area combines local shops, community groups and sports clubs with a commuter catchment to Glasgow thanks to the reopened rail link, and there has been steady regeneration and civic pride in recent years. Longstanding local institutions such as the junior football club and annual community events keep a strong sense of identity, and small business and housing development have gradually reshaped the local economy.
