Dunblane is a small cathedral town in the council area of Stirling in central Scotland, sitting on the banks of the Allan Water close to the River Forth. Its compact stone-built centre is dominated by the medieval Dunblane Cathedral and a mix of Georgian and Victorian architecture, and the town acts as both a local service hub and a popular commuter base with good rail links to Stirling, Perth, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The community combines a quiet, village-like feel with active local life - good schools, independent shops and annual events - and benefits from easy access to countryside and the Trossachs. Dunblane is also widely recognised for its association with the tennis player Andy Murray, and the town’s recent history includes the 1996 school tragedy that had a profound local impact and prompted changes to UK gun law; tourism, small businesses and commuter incomes now make up much of the local economy.
