Alva is a small town in Clackmannanshire in central Scotland, tucked against the southern scarp of the Ochils. The wooded Alva Glen cuts into the hills behind the town, offering steep walks, waterfalls and popular routes for hillwalkers and mountain bikers, while good road links put Alloa, Stirling and the wider Forth Valley within easy reach.
Historically Alva grew as a textile and mill town in the 18th and 19th centuries, and hints of that industrial past survive in former mill buildings. Today it has a strong community feel with local shops, a secondary school (Alva Academy) and active clubs and seasonal events; economically it combines local services and light industry with many residents commuting to nearby centres, all framed by accessible upland countryside.
