Llangynwyd is a semi-rural ward in the valleys of Bridgend county, set on the slopes above the Llynfi Valley and close to the former mining town of Maesteg. The area combines hilly, pastoral countryside with pockets of residential development, giving good views across the valley and easy access to open moorland on the higher ground while remaining within commuting distance of larger centres such as Bridgend and Cardiff.
Historically the locality bears the imprint of the South Wales coalfield, and you’ll find a mix of Victorian and older features around the village core, including a medieval parish church and traditional buildings. Today the ward has a quiet, community-focused character with local groups and social life shaped by Welsh cultural traditions, while its economy is largely residential with small businesses and many residents commuting to work in nearby towns and cities.
