Llanishen is a residential suburb and electoral ward in north Cardiff, about four miles from the city centre. It grew from a small village clustered around its parish church into a popular commuter area during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, so you’ll find a mix of Victorian, interwar and post‑war housing alongside local shops and light industry.
The ward includes green spaces and the notable Llanishen Reservoir, which has been a local focus for recreation and community campaigning over access and development, and is served by Llanishen railway station with good rail and road links. Bordering suburbs such as Lisvane and Thornhill, it has a largely family‑orientated, community feel while remaining well connected to the city’s amenities.
