Glais is a small village on the northern edge of Swansea in Wales, tucked into the steep, wooded valley of the River Tawe. It grew up in the 19th century around coal and metalworking in the Swansea Valley, and you can still notice terraced housing and former industrial sites amid areas of reclaimed woodland.
Today Glais is largely residential with local shops, a community centre and an active rugby club, and many residents commute into nearby centres such as Morriston or the wider Swansea urban area for work; it also offers easy access to riverside and hillside walking, making it an appealing mix of industrial heritage and countryside close to the city.
