Morriston lies just north‑east of Swansea, perched on the slopes above the River Tawe valley with good road links toward the M4 and the city centre. It combines dense Victorian terraces and former industrial sites with more recent retail and residential developments, and hosts the major local health facility Morriston Hospital.
Historically the area grew in the late 18th and 19th centuries under industrialists such as John Morris, becoming a hub for copper and tinplate production; remnants of that past include the industrial ruins around the Hafod-Morfa Copperworks and the prominent Victorian St John's Church. Today the ward retains a strong community spirit, characterised by working‑class neighbourhoods, local regeneration projects and a proud musical tradition exemplified by the internationally known Morriston Orpheus Choir.
