Monkton Combe is a small village and parish a couple of miles south of Bath, tucked into the steep, wooded valley carved by the Cam Brook. Sitting within Bath and North East Somerset, its name reflects medieval links with the monks of Bath Abbey and the settlement still shows a mix of mellow stone cottages, Victorian school buildings and traces of former quarrying and rural industry in the surrounding hillside.
Life is largely residential and commuter-oriented, with many residents working in Bath or Bristol, but the community is enlivened by the presence of the independent Monkton Combe School, local clubs, the village hall and a country pub. The parish is popular with walkers and cyclists for its footpaths and views over the Avon valley, giving it a quietly attractive balance of historic character and outdoor recreation.
