The small market town and parish of Godmanchester sits in historic Huntingdonshire on the north bank of the River Great Ouse, just a mile or so from Huntingdon and within easy commuting distance of Cambridge and Peterborough. Its riverside setting provides pleasant waterside walks, boating and access to nearby meadows that attract a good variety of birdlife.
Settlement here stretches back to Roman times and the centre retains a compact medieval core with many listed stone and brick houses and a parish church of medieval origin; the town is a conservation area. Today Godmanchester is largely residential and commuter-oriented but still supports local shops, schools and an active community life with clubs, events and a strong sense of local history.
