Easington is an electoral ward on the Durham coast in County Durham, occupying a small coastal settlement and the surrounding rural hinterland. The ward sits close to cliffs, dunes and beaches beside the North Sea, so its character is very much shaped by coastal weather, seascapes and open farmland.
Historically the community grew out of fishing and later became tied into the Durham Coalfield, giving it a strong mining heritage and a close‑knit social fabric. The local economy has also been influenced by energy infrastructure, most notably the nearby Easington Gas Terminal, and today the ward combines village amenities and commemorations of its industrial past with coastal walks and wildlife interest.
