Hessle is a riverside town and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, sitting on the north bank of the River Humber just west of Hull. It occupies the northern approach to the Humber Bridge, and the Hessle Foreshore with its mudflats and saltmarshes is popular with walkers, birdwatchers and sailors, giving the place a strong waterfront character.
Historically a riverside and market community, Hessle still shows medieval and Victorian layers - most famously the locally known Hessle Tower - while modern growth has made it a commuter base for Hull. Local life revolves around community groups, small shops and pubs, and the bridge and maritime heritage combine to give the town an appealing mix of industrial history and accessible green spaces.
