The village and civil parish of South Ferriby sits on the south bank of the Humber Estuary in North Lincolnshire. Set beneath the chalk slopes of the Lincolnshire Wolds, its foreshore and cliffs expose interesting Pleistocene deposits and offer broad views across the estuary towards North Ferriby, making it popular with walkers and birdwatchers.
Historically the settlement’s character has been shaped by agriculture, quarrying and a long-standing cement industry on the bank, while today many people commute to nearby centres such as Scunthorpe and Hull. The village retains traditional features - a church, village hall and pub - and a small, close-knit community with a strong attachment to its riverside setting.
