Higham Ferrers is a small market town in North Northamptonshire, set on the floodplain of the River Nene and close to towns such as Rushden and Raunds. It retains a compact medieval centre and a Market Square edged by timber‑framed buildings, giving the town a distinctly historic feel despite its modest size.
The town is best known for the 15th‑century foundations of Chichele College and the impressive Collegiate St Mary's Church, both reminders of its medieval importance and a market charter tradition. Economically it moved from small‑scale shoe and leather trades into light industry and a commuter population travelling to Peterborough and Northampton, while a lively local community sustains annual events, heritage groups and a strong sense of place.
