Irthlingborough is a small town in North Northamptonshire, England, sitting on the floodplain of the River Nene between Rushden and Wellingborough. The landscape has been shaped by river meadows and former sand and gravel workings that have left a string of lakes and green spaces now used for wildlife and leisure, giving the town a semi-rural, waterside character despite its proximity to larger centres.
Historically the town grew with local light industry and the county’s strong footwear and manufacturing traditions, and it gained wider attention as the home of Nene Park and the former Rushden & Diamonds football club. Today Irthlingborough feels like a community on the edge of commuter country - retaining pockets of industrial heritage and working-class roots while also serving as a quieter residential and recreational hub in the Nene valley.
