Higham Ferrers is a compact former market town and ward in the unitary authority of North Northamptonshire, sitting beside the winding River Nene and close to neighbouring towns such as Rushden and Wellingborough. Its compact medieval core and market square give the place a historic, village-like feel while being within easy reach of larger centres such as Northampton, which makes it popular with commuters and families.
Locally notable are the medieval foundations and ecclesiastical legacy left by Archbishop Henry Chichele, visible in the ruins of Chichele College and the parish St Mary's Church, and the town bears traces of the old boot-and-shoe manufacturing economy that shaped much of the area. Today it has an active community life, a conservation area protecting historic streets, and small local businesses and events that keep a strong sense of place.
