Brotton is a village in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland on the North East coast of England, lying a short distance inland from the North Sea and close to Saltburn-by-the-Sea. It sits on the fringe of the rolling country associated with the North York Moors and the low Cleveland hills, so there are handy coastal walks and moorland scenery nearby despite its village scale.
Historically the village grew with the 19th‑century ironstone and mining boom that shaped much of the Cleveland area, and like many local communities it shifted after the decline of heavy industry to become largely residential with local shops, pubs and community groups. Today Brotton has a mixed social character of long‑standing local families and people who commute into nearby centres such as Teesside, and retains a strong village identity linked to its industrial past and coastal setting.
