Skelton and Brotton

Skelton and Brotton is a civil parish in the unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland, in North Yorkshire on the fringe of North East England. The parish covers the larger villages of Skelton-in-Cleveland and Brotton together with smaller settlements, sitting between the moorland of the North York Moors and the Cleveland coast, so it offers a mix of rolling countryside and easy access to coastal walks and beaches.

Historically the area was shaped by 19th‑ and 20th‑century ironstone mining and the arrival of the railways, and that industrial past is still visible in local architecture and community memory. Today the parish combines local shops, schools and community groups with light industry and commuting links into nearby towns such as Redcar and Middlesbrough, while residents also enjoy proximity to coastal villages like Saltburn-by-the-Sea for leisure and tourism.
