Cradley Heath and Old Hill sit on the western edge of the Black Country in Sandwell, western Midlands, forming a compact ribbon of town centres, Victorian terraces and patchwork industrial estates. The area is well connected by rail and road to Birmingham, Stourbridge and neighbouring towns, and still retains lively local shopping streets and the traditional outdoor market that help anchor community life.
Both places carry a strong industrial heritage - chainmaking, nail and ironworking were once dominant and the 1910 chainmakers’ strike centred on Cradley Heath remains a celebrated episode in labour history. Today the neighbourhoods are a mix of light industry, commuter housing and multicultural communities, with pockets of regeneration alongside surviving green spaces and reminders of the Black Country’s working‑class past.
