Clayhanger is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall, in the West Midlands, sitting just north of Brownhills and close to Walsall Wood. It occupies a mix of older terraced streets and later suburban housing and is bordered by pockets of countryside and former industrial land, so it feels both semi-rural and connected to nearby towns.
Historically the area grew up around 19th‑century coal and related industries, and traces of that industrial past survive alongside green corridors and leisure routes such as the nearby Wyrley and Essington Canal. Today Clayhanger is largely a residential, commuter community with local shops, pubs and community groups, with straightforward road links into Walsall and Birmingham.
