Bradfield is a large rural civil parish in West Berkshire, set to the north‑west of Reading and largely lying within the North Wessex Downs AONB. The landscape is typical downland countryside with chalk hills, commons and mixed woods, and the parish is made up of a scattering of villages and hamlets including Bradfield Southend and Highmoor.
Historically agricultural with long‑standing common rights and traces of prehistoric activity on the downs, the area today mixes farming with commuting and small rural enterprises. It is home to the independent school Bradfield College, whose Victorian architecture is a local landmark, and retains a lively village life centred on halls, pubs and annual events, making it popular with walkers, riders and those seeking country living within easy reach of Reading.
