Burghfield is a village and civil parish in West Berkshire, England, lying about five miles south‑west of Reading. The parish contains the larger settlement of Burghfield Common and the small hamlet of Burghfield Bridge; the surrounding landscape mixes farmland and woodland with a string of former gravel‑pit lakes now used for fishing and wildlife, and the River Kennet runs close by. Good road links to the M4 and A4 make it convenient for commuters while retaining a semi‑rural character.
Historically the area has had brickworks and military and ordnance connections, and it sits close to the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston, which has influenced local employment and development. Today Burghfield combines local pubs, village halls and sports clubs with a mixed population of long‑standing rural families and people who commute to nearby towns and Reading for work.
