Burghfield is a largely rural parish in West Berkshire, England, lying a few miles west of Reading. The parish includes the settlements of Burghfield Village and Burghfield Common and is characterised by mixed farmland, pockets of woodland, old gravel pits turned lakes and the meandering River Kennet, making it popular for walking, birdwatching and angling. Good road links, including the nearby M4, mean many residents commute while retaining a village feel.
Historically the area grew from agriculture and local brick and gravel working, and today it combines traditional village life - with a parish church, pubs and community groups - with significant industrial presence: the site of the AWE Burghfield has long been an important local employer and occasional focus of debate. The mix of commuter households, longstanding rural families and accessible countryside gives the parish an understated but distinctive character on the edge of the Thames Valley.
