Fovant is a small village in Wiltshire, tucked into the chalk downland above the River Nadder valley, a short drive from Salisbury. The setting gives it the classic rolling hills and network of public footpaths of the Wessex Downs, with farmland and rural houses clustered around a village street and parish church.
The village is best known for the Fovant Badges, a series of regimental insignia cut into the chalk of the hillside during the First World War and now cared for as a local memorial and landmark. Economically and socially it remains a small, largely agricultural community with some commuters to nearby towns, and it attracts walkers and history enthusiasts interested in rural Wiltshire and its wartime heritage.
