The village and civil parish of Fovant sits on the southern edge of the chalk downland in Wiltshire, England, just off the A30 between Salisbury and Shaftesbury. It overlooks the small valleys of the River Nadder and surrounding farmland, remaining a compact rural community where agriculture still plays a big part and many residents commute to nearby market towns.
Fovant is best known for the striking regimental chalk badges cut into Fovant Down during the First World War by soldiers stationed in local camps; they give the area a strong sense of history and are a focus for remembrance. The village’s ancient parish church and the network of public footpaths across the downs make it popular with walkers, and local life remains shaped by its agricultural and military heritage.
