Garelochhead sits at the head of the Gareloch in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, backed by the steep, rocky slopes of the Arrochar Alps. The village grew in the Victorian era as a lochside stopping point and still has a railway station on the West Highland Line, with historic links to steamers on nearby Loch Long.
Today it’s a small, community‑centred place where outdoor pursuits - sailing, hillwalking and climbing - are popular, while the presence of the naval base at Faslane (HMNB Clyde) nearby remains an important local employer and influence on daily life; visitors often come for the dramatic loch and mountain scenery and straightforward access to Highland routes.
