East Whitburn is a small village in West Lothian, lying to the east of Whitburn and within easy reach of towns such as Bathgate and the major travel corridor towards Edinburgh and Glasgow. The landscape is low-lying and mixed farmland and housing, with green spaces nearby including Polkemmet Country Park, and it feels like a quiet commuter community while still retaining a village atmosphere.
Historically the settlement grew around mining and local industry, and that heritage can still be seen in older miners’ cottages and community memorials. Today East Whitburn has a mixture of long-standing working‑class families and newer residents who commute to nearby towns, supported by local shops, schools and community groups that keep a strong local identity and social life.
