Whitburn is a small former mining town in West Lothian in the central belt of Scotland, sitting roughly between Bathgate and Livingston and within commuting distance of both Glasgow and Edinburgh. The town occupies rolling, agricultural countryside close to the Bathgate Hills and several country parks such as Beecraigs Country Park, which give easy access to outdoor walking and cycling.
Historically Whitburn grew up around coal mining and that industrial heritage still shapes its community identity, with social clubs, churches and sports teams remaining important locally. In recent decades it has shifted toward being largely residential with pockets of light industry and retail, while local festivals, amateur football and other community activities keep a strong social fabric.
