Burry Port is a coastal ward in Carmarthenshire on the south Wales coast, looking out over the Burry Inlet and Llanelli Sands. The town grew up in the 19th century as a coal and mineral export port, and vestiges of that industrial past sit alongside a modern marina and harbour; it’s also close to Pembrey Country Park and the Millennium Coastal Park, popular for walking, cycling and watersports, while the estuary is an important feeding ground for wading birds.
Economically the area has undergone post‑industrial change, with local services, tourism and leisure activities increasingly important alongside commuting to nearby Llanelli. The ward has a mixed social character and a strong local identity, with sailing clubs, community events and ongoing regeneration efforts that try to balance harbour conservation with new housing and amenities.
