Llandovery is a small market town in Carmarthenshire, Wales, sited where the Afon Brân meets the River Towy on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountain uplands. The compact centre bears the remains of a 12th‑century Llandovery Castle and the town grew as a drovers’ hub on old cattle and wool routes, so its streets still reflect that rural trading past.
Today it functions as a service and tourism centre for surrounding hill farms, popular for walking, fishing and scenic drives; it’s also on the Heart of Wales Line and has a strong local identity through institutions such as Llandovery College and its rugby club. Unusually, the town’s name is known to geologists too - the Llandovery epoch of the Silurian was named after rock strata first studied in the area.
