Pontyberem is a ward and village in Carmarthenshire, Wales, tucked into the Gwendraeth Valley between Llanelli and Carmarthen. It grew up around the coal industry and the old Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway, and you still see the legacy of terraced streets, chapels and strong community ties left by that industrial past.
Today Pontyberem mixes local life with commuter routines: there’s an active rugby club, community halls and a visible Welsh‑language culture, while the local economy has shifted towards light industry, farming and travel to nearby towns. The coastal amenities at Burry Port and Pembrey Sands are close enough for days out, giving a mix of valley scenery and seaside access.
