Cerrigydrudion sits high on the uplands of Conwy, on the edge of the heathered moors of Mynydd Hiraethog and within easy reach of Llyn Brenig. The surrounding landscape is open, windswept and dotted with scattered farms and old stone cottages, making it popular with hillwalkers, anglers and mountain bikers; the remoteness also brings dark skies and a strong sense of place.
Locally the community remains rooted in agriculture and Welsh-speaking rural life, with chapels, a community hall and small businesses serving a tight-knit population. The mid-to-late twentieth-century development of the reservoir and growing outdoor recreation have diversified the local economy, but historical threads such as droving routes and traditional farming rhythms are still evident in everyday life.
