Kinmel Bay is a compact coastal village in the county borough of Conwy on the north Wales coast, sitting on a long sweep of sand and dunes between Rhyl and Abergele. The Wales Coast Path runs nearby, and the shoreline, dunes and saltmarsh attract walkers, birdwatchers and watersports enthusiasts; a mix of caravan parks and permanent housing gives the area a distinctly holiday-orientated feel during the summer months.
The settlement grew through twentieth‑century seaside development and serves both as a local service centre and a commuter base with good road links to the A55 and rail stations in neighbouring towns. It was affected by serious coastal flooding in the late 20th century, prompting substantial sea‑defence work, and nearby features such as Kinmel Park (noted for its First World War camp and military cemetery) add to the area's historic interest. Socially it combines long‑standing local communities with a seasonal tourist economy and holiday homeowners.
