The coastal villages of Kinmel Bay and Towyn lie on the north coast of Wales within Conwy, facing the Irish Sea. Long sandy beaches backed by dunes, sizeable caravan and holiday parks and a summer leisure economy mean tourism is important, while many residents commute to nearby towns and the area is well served by the A55 and local rail connections.
Towyn has roots as a Victorian seaside resort, and the community is still shaped by that history and by a dramatic 1990 storm surge that breached sea defences and prompted major coastal protection work. Today the populace is a mix of long‑term locals, retirees and holiday homeowners, with local shops, community facilities and easy access from the coast to inland walking country such as the Clwydian Range.
