The small village and community of Cwmllynfell lies on the western slopes of the Black Mountain in Neath Port Talbot, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. Its upland setting gives sweeping moorland and heather-clad ridges that attract walkers and riders, and the landscape still bears traces of old tracks and quarry workings from the industrial era.
Traditionally a farming community that saw some coal and quarry activity during South Wales’ industrial period, Cwmllynfell retains a strong local identity with chapel life, Welsh-language roots and a proud rugby culture centred on Cwmllynfell RFC. Today it’s largely a quiet, rural place where residents commute to nearby towns or work in agriculture and tourism, and where outdoor recreation and community events keep village life lively.
