Pontardawe sits on the River Tawe in the western end of the Swansea Valley, within Neath Port Talbot in Wales, a short drive north of Swansea. Its name literally means “bridge on the Tawe” and the town is hemmed by rolling hills that provide riverside walks, cycling routes and relatively easy access to the upland scenery of the Brecon Beacons.

Once shaped by coal, tinplate and light industry, Pontardawe still bears that industrial heritage in its streets and housing but today supports a mix of small businesses, local services and commuters. Cultural life is active - centred on the Pontardawe Arts Centre and long-standing brass-band and festival traditions - giving the town a strong community feel alongside its industrial past.
