Gowerton is a large village and community on the outskirts of Swansea in south Wales, sitting just above the estuary of the River Loughor at the eastern edge of the Gower Peninsula. It grew during the 19th-century industrial boom around coal and tinplate, and while much of the heavy industry has gone the streets and civic buildings still reflect that past; today it functions largely as a residential and commuter suburb with local shops and light industry.
The village has a strong local identity - with a well-known secondary school and an active rugby club among the focal points of community life - and offers quick access to both city amenities in Swansea and coastal and countryside walks on the Gower Peninsula. There remains a lively mix of Welsh- and English-speaking families, regular local events and a sense of heritage that links the industrial history with the recreational appeal of the nearby coast.
